Dublin, Ireland: The GOFLEX team officially launched the project and held its kick-off meeting to discuss first steps and upcoming challenges.
From 8th to 9th November 2016, 12 partner organisations from six European countries got together to officially kick off their joint Horizon 2020 project called GOFLEX ('Generalized Operational FLEXibility for Integrating Renewables in the Distribution Grid').
GOFLEX aims at innovating, integrating and demonstating smart grid technologies, enabling cost effective use of demoand response in distribution grids. GOFLEX starts with three European demonstration sites inolving 400 prosumers from industry, buildings and transport - in Cyprus, Germany and Switzerland.
Bradley Eck is a research staff member at IBM Research and will coordinate the GoFlex project for its duration of three years. Apart from IBM research, the GOFLEX team consists of a unique blend of research and industry partners involving solution providers, research institutes, consultancies and several large distribution system operators (DSOs).
At the kick-off meeting in Dublin, the GoFlex team discussed the project's next steps for the coming months. One of the first orders of business will be to set up the GOFLEX community. Through this community, the project team intents to collaborate with all companies, initiatives and projects who want to push the market for energy flexibility. The community targets, among others, utilities, grid operators, aggregators, prosumers, flexible consumers, storage providers, application providers and flexibility research project representatives.
